Marathon Training

September 1, 2014

Today I started training for a marathon.  I am starting slow.  I first need to get some pounds off so that I don't put too much strain on my joints.  Today I weigh 220.0 lbs, and I wear a size 16W.

I realize that I needed a non-numerical goal.  I don't only want a number on a scale, or the number on the tags of my clothes to determine my success.  I need a physical goal.

I have been toying with the idea of running a marathon for a while now, but things like asthma, and nerve damage in my leg has always kind of put me off.  I have decided that I will no longer listen to the excuses for failure.

I am hoping to start by being able to run a complete 5k marathon by Janurary 2015, and then hopefully train up to a half marathon by May/June 2015.  If I am comfortable with those, and I have kept myself from injury, I will then attempt to run a full marathon.  Ultimately, I want to run a full marathon by the time I am 40.

I want my children to see me as an active, and fun person.  I don't want to be boring and lazy any longer.

These are my goals.

Hopefully I will get some decent sleep tonight. Liam has been cooperating, but my restless mind has not. Good night noises everywhere.

I've had the song "I'll tumble for you" by Culture Club stuck in my head since yesterday. Thank you Jeopardy.

My lower back is KILLING me. It's getting harder and harder to pick up my son. This is making me sad. :-(

Newest Gift from pregnancy with my son... Otosclerosis. I thought it was just excess fluid in my ear, but nope. It's an abnormal growth of bone near the middle ear. So now I don't hear very well out of my right ear. At least I can now say "Say that in my good ear" and mean it. Once it gets really bad, I can have surgery to correct it.

Why come no one warns you about the hell that is a growth spurt during breast feeding? How much can a newborn eat?
